Two New CQ "Waking Up DXing" Programs Begin in 2006

January 1 Start Dates for New CQ DX Marathon and CQ iDX Award

January 1, 2006 marks the beginning of two exciting new parts of CQ's "Waking Up DXing" program the CQ DX Marathon and the CQ iDX Award.

The CQ DX Marathon

The CQ DX Marathon is a year-long operating activity, running from January 1 to December 31 of each year, beginning in 2006. The goal is to contact as many different countries and CQ Zones as possible during the course of the year. The activity begins anew each January, so there's no accumulation of credit for past contacts. You've got to get on the air and work DX! Complete details are in the May, 2005 issue of CQ (p. 16) and on the CQ website at <https://www.cq-amateur-radio.com/DX Marathon May.pdf> (be sure to include the spaces).

The CQ iDX Award

The CQ iDX Award is a "beginner's" DXing program, encouraging all hams - even those limited to VHF FM - to begin enjoying the fun of contacting stations in faraway places through the use of systems using VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) to link repeaters and amateurs around the world. The initial level of the award is given for contacting stations in at least 25 different countries. At least one end of each contact must be made by radio; confirmations are required, and the top level of the award is for 100 countries. Contacts that count for this award do not count for traditional CQ awards. Only contacts made January 1, 2006 and later qualify for the CQ iDX Award. Complete details are in the June, 2005 issue of CQ (p. 20) and on the CQ website at <https://www.cq-amateur-radio.com/IDX Award June.pdf> (be sure to include the spaces).

CQ DX Field Award

The third component of CQ's "Waking Up DXing" program -- the CQ DX Field Award -- is already up and running and very popular. At press time, certificates were at the printer and are expected to be completed and mailed to initial awardees before the end of the year. Details on the CQ DX Field Award are in the April issue of CQ (p. 22) and on the CQ website at<https://www.cq-amateur-radio.com/cqfieldaward.html>.

Good luck and Good DX!
